OPSEC Risks in Consumer Devices
Fifty years ago, loose lips would sink ships. Ten years ago, loose tweets would sink fleets. Today, for better or worse, personal electronics constantly generate streams of data that power a growing commercial consumer data information exploitation ecosystem.
This course empowers decision makers with information surrounding the practice of commercial data collection, data sale, data aggregation, data exploitation, and the opportunities for abuse afforded by an underregulated system plagued by issues of insider abuse, criminal resale, and data breach.
Decision makers need to know the risks of allowing devices in theatre. Most staffers carry smart phones, tablets, or smart watches. What risks do these devices present to the operational security of an organization?
In this course, we demonstrate the data exposed by these devices. We discuss strategies of mitigation and demonstrate effective methods which students can take with them directly.
